Google's Mobile-First Index

Non-mobile friendly content BEWARE! Google is set to release its brand new ranking system, mobile-first index. Mobile-first index will rank websites based on their mobile version of their content. This means that if a website does not have mobile friendly content, its ranking on Google will drop drastically. So why is Google switching to mobile-first index? They want to cater to the majority of their users who are mobile searchers.  Google will continue to display non-mobile friendly websites, but it’s important to upgrade due to their recently released mobile-friendly algorithm. If a website has different desktop and mobile versions, the mobile platform will be the only one displayed. Google suggests upgrading to responsive web design which displays the same content on desktop AND mobile.

Mobile-first index plans to roll out in the next couple of months as it is still in testing.
